About The Position

BluePearl Pet Hospital - Midtown, NY is hiring for a skilled Relief Licensed Veterinary Technician to join our Neurology team. This role involves performing physical exams, administering IV treatments, operating medical equipment, gathering patient histories, educating clients, restraining patients, inducing and monitoring anesthesia, assisting with MRI and CT procedures, discharging patients with post-care instructions, providing nursing care, calculating medical dosages, and managing patient callbacks and medication refills.

Requirements

  • Licensed Veterinary Technician (LVT)
  • Skilled in performing physical exams, including vital signs assessment.
  • Proficient in IVC placement and venipuncture.
  • Experience operating and troubleshooting intravenous fluid pumps.
  • Ability to gather patient histories and communicate effectively with doctors and clients.
  • Skilled in patient restraint for examinations and diagnostics.
  • Experience with anesthesia induction, monitoring, and recovery.
  • Familiarity with setting up for MRI and CT procedures.
  • Knowledge of basic client education for neurological patients (e.g., bladder expression, sling walking, range of motion).
  • Ability to calculate medical dosages and set up constant rate infusions (CRI).
  • Experience with patient callbacks and medication refills.
  • Unrestricted, current authorization to work in the U.S. and not require future sponsorship for an employment-based green card.

Responsibilities

  • Perform physical exam; accurately count heart, pulse rate, capillary refill time, mucous membranes, temperature, respiratory rate and effort.
  • Comfortable with IVC placement and venipuncture
  • Operate all brands of intravenous fluid pumps and can troubleshoot errors.
  • Gather histories, communicating to the doctor, and providing client education.
  • Restrain patients during consults and during diagnostics
  • Induce, monitor and recover anesthesia
  • Set up for MRI and CT procedures
  • Discharge neuro patients from the hospital, including basic client education such as manual bladder expression, sling walking, range of motion, etc.
  • Provide nursing care to stable patients according to hospital standards of care and core values
  • Calculate medical math and set up constant rate infusions (CRI).
  • Perform call backs and refill medications
