About The Position
Petco Veterinary Services offers relief veterinarians shifts at Vetco Vaccination Clinics and Vetco Total Care full-service veterinary hospitals. The role provides flexible online scheduling, with no minimum or maximum shift requirement and weekday and weekend hours. Veterinarians set their own rate for each shift, may continue practice activities outside Petco shifts, and pay no agency fees. An appointment-based model helps manage patient flow, while trained staff handle operations so veterinarians can focus on care. Veterinarians receive a monthly newsletter with clinic news, policy updates, and product announcements, as well as a 15% discount on Petco products and services. Vetco Vaccination Clinics provide basic wellness checks, vaccinations, heartworm testing, and microchip placement; they do not provide surgery, emergency, or illness care. Locations are primarily inside Petco stores, with some operating from mobile van units. Vetco Total Care hospitals provide preventive care, diagnostic workups, outpatient surgeries, and dental procedures. They are equipped with digital dental X-rays, Butterfly IQ+ Vet ultrasound imaging, and surgery suites with heated hydraulic tables and full anesthesia monitoring. Hospital shifts do not include overnight or emergency on-call work. Vetco services are available in 48 states.
Requirements
- Doctor of Veterinary Medicine state license in good standing.
- Appropriate state-specific licensing to perform all shift functions, including blood draws and vaccine administration.
- DEA registration in good standing for relief shifts at full-service Vetco Total Care hospitals.
- Ability to provide professional liability insurance and a license defense policy.
- Compliance with all local, state, and federal mandates.
Responsibilities
- Provide veterinary care during assigned relief shifts at Vetco Vaccination Clinics or Vetco Total Care hospitals.
- At vaccination clinics, provide basic wellness checks, vaccinations, heartworm testing, and microchip placement.
- At Vetco Total Care hospitals, provide services that may include preventive care, diagnostic workups, outpatient surgeries, and dental procedures.
- Perform shift functions in accordance with applicable state-specific licensing and local, state, and federal mandates.
