About The Position

Petco Veterinary Services is seeking relief veterinarians to work in Vetco Vaccination Clinics and/or Vetco Total Care full-service veterinary hospitals. Flexible online scheduling lets veterinarians choose shifts that fit their lifestyle, with no minimum or maximum shift requirement and weekday and weekend hours available. Veterinarians set their own rate for each shift and may continue practice activities outside Petco shifts without agency fees. An appointment-based model helps manage patient flow, and trained staff handle operations so veterinarians can focus on patient care. Clinic news, policy updates, and product announcements are shared through a monthly newsletter. The role also includes a 15% discount on Petco products and services.

Vetco Vaccination Clinics provide basic wellness checks, vaccinations, heartworm testing, and microchip placement. They do not provide surgery, emergency, or illness care. Most are located inside Petco stores, with some operating from mobile van units.

Vetco Total Care hospitals provide preventive care, diagnostic workups, outpatient surgeries, and dental procedures. Hospitals feature digital dental X-rays, Butterfly IQ+ Vet ultrasound imaging, and equipped surgery suites with heated hydraulic surgery tables and full anesthesia monitoring. Licensed and trained hospital staff support care delivery. There are no overnight or emergency on-call shifts.

Requirements

• Doctor of Veterinary Medicine degree.
• State veterinary license in good standing.
• Appropriate state-specific licensing to perform all shift functions, including blood draws and vaccine administration.
• DEA registration in good standing for relief shifts at full-service Vetco Total Care hospitals.
• Professional liability insurance and a license defense policy.
• Compliance with all local, state, and federal mandates.

Responsibilities

• Provide veterinary care during selected relief shifts in Vetco Vaccination Clinics and/or Vetco Total Care hospitals.
• At vaccination clinics, provide basic wellness checks, vaccinations, heartworm testing, and microchip placement.
• At full-service hospitals, provide services that may include preventive care, diagnostic workups, outpatient surgeries, and dental procedures.
• Perform blood draws and administer vaccines as required for shift functions.
• Comply with applicable local, state, and federal mandates.
