Petco Veterinary Services offers relief veterinarians the opportunity to work in Vetco Vaccination Clinics and Vetco Total Care full-service veterinary hospitals. Veterinarians can use flexible online scheduling to select shifts that suit their availability; there is no minimum or maximum number of shifts. Weekday and weekend shifts are available, and veterinarians set their own rate for each shift. They may continue practice activities outside Petco shifts, with no agency fees. The appointment-based model helps manage patient flow and supports veterinarians leaving on time, while trained staff handle clinic operations so veterinarians can focus on care. Petco also provides monthly updates about clinic news, policies, and products, and a 15% discount on Petco products and services. Vetco Vaccination Clinics provide basic wellness checks, vaccinations, heartworm testing, and microchip placement. They do not provide surgery, emergency, or illness care. Locations are primarily inside Petco stores, with some in mobile van units. Vetco Total Care hospitals provide preventive care, diagnostic workups, outpatient surgeries, and dental procedures. Hospital equipment includes digital dental X-rays, Butterfly IQ+ Vet ultrasound imaging, and equipped surgery suites. Hospital shifts do not involve overnight or emergency on-call work. Relief veterinarians must hold a Doctor of Veterinary Medicine and a current state license in good standing, along with state-specific credentials required for shift duties, including blood draws and vaccine administration. DEA registration in good standing is required for full-service Vetco Total Care relief shifts. Veterinarians must provide professional liability insurance and a license defense policy and comply with applicable local, state, and federal requirements.
