About The Position

Petco Veterinary Services offers relief veterinarians work in two settings: Vetco Vaccination Clinics and Vetco Total Care full-service veterinary hospitals. The appointment-based model helps manage patient flow, while trained staff handle clinic operations so veterinarians can focus on patient care. Relief veterinarians can choose shifts through flexible online scheduling, with no minimum or maximum number of shifts required, and may set their own rate for each shift. Weekday and weekend shifts are available, and veterinarians may continue practice activities outside Petco shifts.

Vetco Vaccination Clinics provide basic wellness checks, vaccinations, heartworm testing, and microchip placement. They do not provide surgery, emergency, or illness care. Most are located within Petco stores, with some operating from mobile van units. Vetco Total Care hospitals provide preventive care, diagnostic workups, outpatient surgeries, and dental procedures. Hospital equipment includes digital dental X-rays, Butterfly IQ+ Vet ultrasound imaging, and surgery suites with heated hydraulic tables and full anesthesia monitoring. Hospital shifts do not include overnight or emergency on-call work.

Requirements

• Doctor of Veterinary Medicine state license in good standing.
• Appropriate state-specific licensing to perform all shift functions, including blood draws and vaccine administration.
• DEA registration in good standing for relief shifts at Vetco Total Care full-service hospitals.
• Ability to provide professional liability insurance and a license defense policy.
• Compliance with all local, state, and federal mandates.

Responsibilities

• Provide veterinary care during relief shifts at Vetco Vaccination Clinics or Vetco Total Care hospitals.
• Perform services appropriate to the setting, including wellness checks, vaccinations, heartworm testing, and microchip placement at vaccination clinics, or preventive care, diagnostic workups, outpatient surgeries, and dental procedures at full-service hospitals.
• Perform all shift functions permitted by applicable state-specific licensing, including blood draws and vaccine administration.
