About The Position

Petco Veterinary Services offers relief veterinarians shifts in two settings: Vetco Vaccination Clinics and Vetco Total Care full-service veterinary hospitals. The role provides flexible online scheduling, with weekday and weekend shifts and no minimum or maximum shift requirement. Veterinarians set their own rate for each shift, may continue practice activities outside Petco shifts, and do not pay agency fees.

The appointment-based model helps manage patient flow and supports veterinarians leaving on time. Trained staff handle clinic operations so veterinarians can focus on care. Vetco Vaccination Clinics provide basic wellness checks, vaccinations, heartworm testing, and microchip placement; they do not provide surgery, emergency, or illness care. Vetco Total Care hospitals provide preventive care, diagnostic workups, outpatient surgeries, and dental procedures. Hospital shifts do not include overnight or emergency on-call duties. Relief veterinarians receive a 15% discount on Petco products and services.

Requirements

• Doctor of Veterinary Medicine degree and a state license in good standing.
• Appropriate state-specific licensing to perform all shift functions, including blood draws and vaccine administration.
• DEA registration in good standing for relief shifts at Vetco Total Care full-service hospitals.
• Professional liability insurance and a license defense policy.
• Compliance with all local, state, and federal mandates.

Responsibilities

• Provide veterinary care during relief shifts at Vetco Vaccination Clinics or Vetco Total Care hospitals.
• At vaccination clinics, provide basic wellness checks, vaccinations, heartworm testing, and microchip placement.
• At full-service hospitals, provide services that may include preventive care, diagnostic workups, outpatient surgeries, and dental procedures.
• Perform shift functions in compliance with applicable local, state, and federal mandates.
