About The Position

Petco Veterinary Services offers relief veterinarians opportunities to work in Vetco Vaccination Clinics and Vetco Total Care full-service veterinary hospitals. The appointment-based model helps manage patient flow, while trained staff handle operations so veterinarians can focus on patient care. Relief veterinarians can schedule shifts online, choose from weekday and weekend hours, and set their own rate for each shift. There is no minimum or maximum number of shifts, no agency fees, and veterinarians may continue practice activities outside Petco shifts.

Vetco Vaccination Clinics provide basic wellness checks, vaccinations, heartworm testing, and microchip placement. They do not provide surgery, emergency care, or illness care. Most clinics are located within Petco stores, with some in mobile van units.

Vetco Total Care hospitals provide preventive care, diagnostic workups, outpatient surgeries, and dental procedures. Facilities include digital dental X-rays, Butterfly IQ+ Vet ultrasound imaging, and equipped surgery suites. Hospital shifts do not include overnight or emergency on-call duties. Petco provides clinic news, policy updates, and product announcements through a monthly newsletter. Relief veterinarians also receive a 15% discount on Petco products and services.

Requirements

• Doctor of Veterinary Medicine state license in good standing.
• Appropriate state-specific licensing to perform all shift functions, including blood draws and vaccine administration.
• DEA registration in good standing for relief shifts at full-service Vetco Total Care hospitals.
• Professional liability insurance and a license defense policy.
• Compliance with all local, state, and federal mandates.

Responsibilities

• Provide veterinary care during relief shifts at Vetco Vaccination Clinics or Vetco Total Care hospitals.
• At vaccination clinics, provide basic wellness checks, vaccinations, heartworm testing, and microchip placement.
• At full-service hospitals, provide services that may include preventive care, diagnostic workups, outpatient surgeries, and dental procedures.
• Perform shift functions in compliance with applicable local, state, and federal mandates.
