Petco Veterinary Services relief veterinarians work in Vetco Vaccination Clinics and Vetco Total Care full-service veterinary hospitals. The role offers flexible online scheduling, with no minimum or maximum number of shifts and a range of weekday and weekend hours. Veterinarians set their own rate for each shift, may continue practice activities outside Petco shifts, and do not pay agency fees. An appointment-based model helps manage patient flow, while trained staff handle clinic operations so veterinarians can focus on care. Petco also provides a monthly newsletter with clinic news, policy updates, and product announcements, plus a 15% discount on Petco products and services. Vetco Vaccination Clinics provide basic wellness checks, vaccinations, heartworm testing, and microchip placement; they do not provide surgery, emergency care, or illness care. Most are located in Petco stores, with some operating from mobile van units. Vetco Total Care hospitals provide preventive care, diagnostic workups, outpatient surgeries, and dental procedures. Hospital equipment includes digital dental X-rays, Butterfly IQ+ Vet ultrasound imaging, and surgery suites with heated hydraulic tables and full anesthesia monitoring. Hospital staff are licensed and trained, and relief shifts do not include overnight or emergency on-call work.

Requirements

Doctor of Veterinary Medicine state license in good standing.
Appropriate state-specific licensing to perform all shift functions, including blood draws and vaccine administration.
DEA registration in good standing for relief shifts at full-service Vetco Total Care hospitals.
Professional Liability Insurance and a license defense policy.
Compliance with all local, state, and federal mandates.

Responsibilities

Provide veterinary care during relief shifts at Vetco Vaccination Clinics or Vetco Total Care hospitals.
At vaccination clinics, provide basic wellness checks, vaccinations, heartworm testing, and microchip placement.
At Vetco Total Care hospitals, provide services that may include preventive care, diagnostic workups, outpatient surgeries, and dental procedures.
Perform shift functions in compliance with applicable licensing requirements and local, state, and federal mandates.
