About The Position

Petco Veterinary Services offers relief veterinarians opportunities to work in Vetco Vaccination Clinics and Vetco Total Care full-service veterinary hospitals. The role provides flexible online scheduling with no minimum or maximum shift requirement, and veterinarians may choose from weekday and weekend shifts and set their own rate for each shift. Veterinarians may continue practice activities outside Petco shifts, with no agency fees.

The appointment-based model helps manage patient flow and supports veterinarians leaving on time. Trained, experienced staff handle clinic operations so veterinarians can focus on patient care. Vetco Vaccination Clinics provide basic wellness checks, vaccinations, heartworm testing, and microchip placement, but do not provide surgery, emergency, or illness care. Vetco Total Care hospitals provide preventive care, diagnostic workups, outpatient surgeries, and dental procedures, using equipment that includes digital dental X-rays, Butterfly IQ+ Vet ultrasound imaging, and fully equipped surgery suites. There are no overnight or emergency on-call shifts. The role also includes access to clinic news, policy updates, and product announcements through a monthly newsletter, plus a 15% discount on Petco products and services.

Requirements

• Doctor of Veterinary Medicine state license in good standing.
• Appropriate state-specific licensing to perform all shift functions, including the ability to perform blood draws and administer vaccines.
• Professional Liability Insurance and a license defense policy.
• Compliance with all local, state, and federal mandates.
• DEA registration in good standing is required for relief shifts at full-service Vetco Total Care hospitals.

Responsibilities

• Provide veterinary care during selected relief shifts at Vetco Vaccination Clinics or Vetco Total Care hospitals.
• Perform shift functions in accordance with applicable state-specific licensing, including blood draws and vaccine administration.
• At Vetco Vaccination Clinics, provide basic wellness checks, vaccinations, heartworm testing, and microchip placement.
• At Vetco Total Care hospitals, provide services that may include preventive care, diagnostic workups, outpatient surgeries, and dental procedures.
• Comply with all local, state, and federal mandates.
