About The Position
Petco Veterinary Services offers relief veterinarians opportunities in two settings: Vetco Vaccination Clinics and Vetco Total Care full-service veterinary hospitals. Vaccination Clinics provide basic wellness checks, vaccinations, heartworm testing, and microchip placement; they do not provide surgery, emergency, or illness care. Most are located within Petco stores, with some operating from mobile van units. Vetco Total Care hospitals offer preventive care, diagnostic workups, outpatient surgeries, and dental procedures. Hospital equipment includes digital dental X-rays, Butterfly IQ+ Vet ultrasound imaging, and fully equipped surgery suites. Hospital shifts do not involve overnight or emergency on-call work. Relief veterinarians can use flexible online scheduling, choose shifts without a minimum or maximum shift requirement, set their own rate for each shift, and continue practice activities outside Petco shifts. The appointment-based model helps manage patient flow, and trained staff handle operations so veterinarians can focus on care. Petco provides a monthly newsletter with clinic news, policy updates, and product announcements, as well as a 15% discount on Petco products and services.
Requirements
- Doctor of Veterinary Medicine state license in good standing.
- Appropriate state-specific licensing to perform all shift functions, including blood draws and vaccine administration.
- DEA registration in good standing for relief shifts at full-service Vetco Total Care hospitals.
- Professional Liability Insurance and a license defense policy.
- Compliance with all local, state, and federal mandates.
Responsibilities
- Provide veterinary care during relief shifts at Vetco Vaccination Clinics or Vetco Total Care hospitals.
- At Vaccination Clinics, provide basic wellness checks, vaccinations, heartworm testing, and microchip placement.
- At Vetco Total Care hospitals, provide services that may include preventive care, diagnostic workups, outpatient surgeries, and dental procedures.
- Perform shift functions in compliance with applicable local, state, and federal mandates.
