Petco Veterinary Services offers relief veterinarians opportunities to work in Vetco Vaccination Clinics and Vetco Total Care full-service veterinary hospitals. Relief veterinarians can use flexible online scheduling to choose shifts that suit their lifestyle. There is no minimum or maximum shift requirement, and weekday and weekend hours are available. Veterinarians set their own rate for each shift and may continue practicing outside Petco shifts without agency fees. The appointment-based model helps manage patient flow, while trained staff handle operations so veterinarians can focus on patient care. Vetco Vaccination Clinics provide basic wellness checks, vaccinations, heartworm testing, and microchip placement; they do not provide surgery, emergency, or illness care. These clinics are primarily located in Petco stores, with some operating from mobile vans. Vetco Total Care hospitals provide services including preventive care, diagnostic workups, outpatient surgery, and dental procedures. Hospital equipment includes digital dental X-rays, Butterfly IQ+ Vet ultrasound imaging, and equipped surgery suites. Hospital staff are licensed and trained, and there are no overnight or emergency on-call shifts. Petco offers a 15% discount on its products and services. The position requires a Doctor of Veterinary Medicine state license in good standing, appropriate state-specific licensing for shift functions, and professional liability insurance with license defense coverage. A DEA registration in good standing is required for relief shifts at full-service Vetco Total Care hospitals.
