Petco Veterinary Services offers relief veterinarians shifts in Vetco Vaccination Clinics and Vetco Total Care full-service veterinary hospitals. The role provides flexible online scheduling with no minimum or maximum shift requirement and weekday and weekend hours. Veterinarians set their own rate for each shift, may continue practice activities outside Petco shifts, and do not pay agency fees. An appointment-based model helps manage patient flow, and trained staff handle clinic operations so veterinarians can focus on care. Veterinarians receive a monthly newsletter with clinic news, policy updates, and product announcements, as well as a 15% discount on Petco products and services. Vetco Vaccination Clinics provide basic wellness checks, vaccinations, heartworm testing, and microchip placement. They do not provide surgery, emergency, or illness care. Locations are primarily inside Petco stores, with some in advanced mobile van units. Vetco Total Care hospitals provide preventive care, diagnostic workups, outpatient surgeries, and dental procedures. Their equipment includes digital dental X-rays, Butterfly IQ+ Vet ultrasound imaging, and surgery suites with heated hydraulic tables and full anesthesia monitoring. Hospital staff are licensed and trained, and there are no overnight or emergency on-call shifts. The role requires a Doctor of Veterinary Medicine state license in good standing, appropriate state-specific licensing to perform shift duties, including blood draws and vaccine administration, professional liability insurance and a license defense policy, and compliance with applicable mandates. DEA registration in good standing is required for relief shifts at full-service Vetco Total Care hospitals. Washington state bid rates average $122.00–$153.00 per hour; shift rates may vary by clinic location and shift duration.
