About The Position
Petco Veterinary Services is hiring relief veterinarians to work in Vetco Vaccination Clinics and Vetco Total Care full-service veterinary hospitals. The role offers flexible online scheduling, with no minimum or maximum number of shifts, a variety of weekday and weekend hours, and the ability to set a rate for each shift. Veterinarians may continue practice activities outside Petco shifts, with no agency fees. The appointment-based model helps manage patient flow and supports on-time departures. Trained, experienced staff handle clinic operations so veterinarians can focus on patient care. Vaccination Clinics provide basic wellness checks, vaccinations, heartworm testing, and microchip placement; they do not provide surgery, emergency, or illness care. Total Care hospitals provide preventive care, diagnostic workups, outpatient surgeries, and dental procedures. These hospitals have digital dental X-rays, Butterfly IQ+ Vet ultrasound imaging, and surgery suites with heated hydraulic tables and full anesthesia monitoring. There are no overnight or emergency on-call shifts at Total Care hospitals. Washington state bid rates average $122.00–$153.00 per hour; shift rates may vary by clinic location and shift duration. The role includes a 15% discount on Petco products and services. Clinic news, policy updates, and product announcements are shared through a monthly newsletter.
Requirements
- Doctor of Veterinary Medicine degree and a state veterinary license in good standing.
- Appropriate state-specific licensing to perform all functions of the shift, including blood draws and vaccine administration.
- DEA registration in good standing for relief shifts at full-service Vetco Total Care hospitals.
- Ability to provide professional liability insurance and a license defense policy.
- Compliance with all local, state, and federal mandates.
Responsibilities
- Provide veterinary care during selected relief shifts at Vetco Vaccination Clinics and/or Vetco Total Care hospitals.
- At vaccination clinics, provide basic wellness checks, vaccinations, heartworm testing, and microchip placement.
- At Total Care hospitals, provide services that may include preventive care, diagnostic workups, outpatient surgeries, and dental procedures.
- Comply with applicable local, state, and federal mandates.
