About The Position

At ATB, we exist to make it possible for our clients, team members and communities. Our purpose is more than aspirational. It's a real commitment we live every day through our values (what we call the ATB ID). Life at ATB is about more than work. In fact, we’re consistently recognized as one of Canada's top employers thanks to our high-care, high-performance culture, upheld by the three commitments we make to team members: Impact in action, Thrive together, and Ready for tomorrow. Reporting to the Director, this unique rotational program is designed to build the next generation of elite Relationship Managers (RM) for our Regional Markets Team. At ATB, leadership is our profession, and as a participant in this program, you will develop the vital skills required to champion our Path to 2030 strategy, putting clients at the center of everything we do. What sets this opportunity apart is its foundational approach: you will spend your first 18 months fully embedded within our Central Underwriting team. During this intensive first phase, you will master the art of credit structuring, risk assessment, and financial analysis alongside senior underwriters. By deeply understanding the mechanics of how deals get approved, you will transition into your permanent Regional RM role equipped with unparalleled technical expertise. Once in the market, you will lead, manage, retain, and grow a dedicated portfolio of ATB Business customers. You will leverage your strong credit background to proactively identify opportunities, structure complex deals efficiently, and act as a deeply trusted advisor who models self-awareness and understands where our rural clients are, where they came from, and where they are going.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree or diploma in Business, Commerce, Finance, Economics, Agribusiness, or a related field. An equivalent combination of practical financial experience and continuous learning will also be considered.
  • A genuine interest in or connection to Alberta’s rural markets and a desire to support the unique economic drivers of these communities.
  • A rare combination of a growth-oriented, client-obsessed connector and an analytical, data-driven problem solver who actively seeks opportunities for continuous growth.
  • Demonstrated experience or a strong foundational capability in analyzing financial data (tax returns, balance sheets, cash flow statements) to build sound credit recommendations.
  • Exceptional verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to translate complex financial concepts into clear, actionable advice for clients.
  • High resourcefulness and the ability to manage your personal energy and thrive in a structured, fast-paced 18-month learning environment before transitioning into an independent, market-facing role.

Responsibilities

  • Master the Credit Process: Collaborate purposefully across teams and partner directly with existing Relationship Managers to assess risk, analyze complex financial data, and prepare pristine credit assessments.
  • Learn the Risk Appetite: Ensure all credit decisions and recommendations strictly align with sound credit-granting principles and ATB lending policies, demonstrating a strong personal commitment to our values and risk culture.
  • Build the Bridge: Act as a collaborative link between sales and risk, learning how to structure optimum credit solutions that protect ATB while passionately advocating for the client's long-term success.
  • Grow the Regional Portfolio: Mobilize your market knowledge to meet and exceed client expectations, proactively identifying products, services, and lending opportunities to achieve deposit and pipeline targets.
  • Execute Seamless Deals: Leverage your year of underwriting expertise to structure and recommend credit solutions faster and more effectively, minimizing back-and-forth friction through data-informed decisions.
  • Portfolio & Risk Management: Masterfully manage your book of business, including renewing expired credits, navigating arrears, and ensuring strict adherence to ATB’s risk tolerance to secure sustainable growth.
  • Community Advocacy: Actively participate in internal and external rural market events, modeling ATB's commitment to community impact by supporting initiatives vital to the success of Albertans and local economies.
