Reinsurance Operations and Underwriting Support Intern
About The Position
SompoRe is hiring an intern for its Reinsurance Operations team. The 10-week internship is designed to support professional growth and may offer successful participants a potential long-term opportunity in the Insurance/Reinsurance industry. Operations interns help deliver a strong experience for clients and broker partners by supporting the centralization and standardization of non-underwriting activities. The role is based in Sompo’s Garden City, New York office and requires an in-office working arrangement during the internship. The intern will build and manage key relationships, help optimize the operations team’s use of platforms, maintain reporting databases, learn about operational metrics and how they interact across business segments, assist with setting up forms in systems, and monitor submissions to ensure timely processing according to priority. Interns also participate in leadership learning, networking events, and a project presented to their manager and mentor.
Requirements
- Be currently enrolled in a bachelor’s or graduate degree program for the full duration of the internship.
- Have a minimum GPA of 3.0.
- Have a genuine interest in developing a career in the insurance industry.
- Be willing to learn and contribute to team projects.
- Be able to articulate ideas clearly through written and verbal communication.
- Have a solution-oriented mindset and data analytical skills.
- Be detail-oriented, organized, and tech-savvy, including proficiency with Microsoft Excel, Word, and PowerPoint.
- Be local to the desired office location or able to arrange housing and transportation in the area to support an in-office working arrangement during the internship.
- Be at least 18 years old and authorized to work in the United States without restriction.
Responsibilities
- Build and manage key relationships.
- Help optimize how the operations team uses various platforms to perform necessary tasks.
- Help maintain reporting databases used by the senior operations team to gain insight into daily operations.
- Learn about operational metrics that drive Sompo’s business and how they interact across other business segments.
- Assist in setting up forms in the system.
- Monitor the submissions workflow and process submissions in a timely manner based on priority.
- Participate in a project to present to a manager and mentor.
