About The Position

SompoRe is hiring a Reinsurance Underwriting Intern for its Surety team. The 10-week internship program provides professional development and may offer long-term opportunities for successful participants interested in insurance or reinsurance. Based in the Morristown, New Jersey office, the intern will learn alongside experienced underwriters through on-the-job learning and workplace mentoring, and interact with departments involved in underwriting. Interns may also attend executive and leadership learning sessions, networking events, and peer activities, and complete a project to present to their manager and mentor.

Requirements

• Currently enrolled in a bachelor's or other degree program studying Risk Management, Finance, or a related major.
• Interest in learning reinsurance contract and language skills.
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
• Strong analytical, quantitative, and interpersonal skills.
• Ability to work in a fast-paced team environment with rapidly changing priorities and demands.
• Strong proficiency with Microsoft Office, including Excel, Word, and PowerPoint.
• At least 18 years old and authorized to work in the United States without restriction.
• Local to the NYC area and/or able to provide their own housing and transportation.

Responsibilities

• Develop an understanding of the company’s underwriting philosophy.
• Assist with underwriting new and renewal business.
• Assist with account processing.
• Analyze and research current and proposed accounts, help analyze market trends, and prepare underwriters for meetings and audits.
• Participate in intern-program and departmental projects, such as market analysis, line-of-business research, and product development.
• Accompany underwriters to internal meetings and occasional external marketing calls.
• Assist the team with special projects.
