About The Position

Sompo is hiring a Reinsurance Claims Intern for its Reinsurance Claims team in New York, NY. This 10-week development program is designed to provide professional growth and potential long-term opportunities for people interested in the insurance and reinsurance industry. Interns join the Global Reinsurance Team and gain foundational experience supporting claims across all lines arising from the US Reinsurance portfolio. The program also includes leadership learning, networking with peers and executives and outside brokerage firms, and a project presented to the intern’s manager and mentor. The stated salary range is $20–$22; actual compensation depends on factors including work-location cost of living, qualifications, skills, competencies, and relevant experience.

Requirements

• Currently enrolled in a bachelor’s or degree program studying Risk Management, Finance, or a related major.
• Interest in learning niche reinsurance contract and language skills.
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
• Strong analytical, quantitative, and interpersonal skills.
• Ability to work in a fast-paced team environment with rapidly changing priorities and demands.
• Strong proficiency using Microsoft Office, including Excel, Word, and PowerPoint.
• Must be at least 18 years old and authorized to work in the United States without restriction.
• Must be local to the NY/CT/NJ area and/or able to provide their own housing and transportation.

Responsibilities

• Develop an understanding of the company’s reinsurance claims practices.
• Contribute to the reinsurance claims team.
• Assist with processing and triaging mail.
• Assist with analyzing data and statistics.
• Assist with reviewing claims set up in reinsurance systems.
• Liaise with the Underwriting Support Team and Reinsurance Operations on data, systems, and projects in the reinsurance process.
• Assist the team with special projects.
