About The Position

This internship offers a fast-paced, hands-on introduction to rehabilitation in an acute care hospital setting. As a Rehabilitation Intern at Bronson Methodist Hospital, you will work alongside therapy teams, supporting patients at critical points in their recovery. You will gain insight into the vital role of rehabilitation in patient outcomes, from early mobility to discharge planning. This role provides early exposure to a clinical environment where decisions are fast, teamwork is essential, and every interaction matters. It's an opportunity to build confidence, develop clinical awareness, and understand the realities of working in a hospital setting.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or GED required.
  • Current enrollment in (or intent to pursue) a healthcare or rehabilitation-related program preferred (e.g., Exercise Science, Kinesiology, Pre-PT, Pre-OT, or similar).
  • Basic medical terminology knowledge preferred.
  • Comfort using computers and electronic medical records.
  • Ability to safely assist with patient mobility and physical tasks.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.
  • Interest in pursuing a career in rehabilitation or healthcare.
  • Comfort working in a fast-paced, hospital environment.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to follow direction and support therapist-led care plans.
  • A team-first mindset with professionalism and empathy.
  • Reliability, adaptability, and strong work ethic.
  • Willingness to work with medically complex patients across all age groups.

Responsibilities

  • Support therapists with non-billable patient care activities in an acute care setting.
  • Assist with patient mobility, including safe transfers, positioning, and transport.
  • Help facilitate therapeutic exercises under therapist supervision.
  • Observe evaluations, treatment planning, and interdisciplinary collaboration.
  • Assist with co-treatments requiring additional support.
  • Document exercises and interactions in the electronic medical record (as appropriate).
  • Maintain a clean, safe, and organized clinical environment.
  • Support unit operations including stocking supplies and preparing equipment.
  • Provide excellent service to patients, families, and care team members.
  • Assist with administrative tasks such as answering phones and supporting workflow.
