About The Position

This internship offers hands-on exposure to outpatient orthopedic and sports medicine rehabilitation, working alongside clinicians who help patients recover from injuries, improve performance, and safely return to activity. It provides real-world exposure to orthopedic and sports-focused care, helping interns connect classroom knowledge to clinical application while building a strong foundation for PT, OT, athletic training, or related fields. The role involves supporting therapists with non-billable patient care activities, assisting with therapeutic exercises, preparing equipment, observing evaluations and treatments, assisting with patient flow, documenting in the electronic medical record, maintaining a clean clinical environment, stocking supplies, providing customer service, and assisting with administrative tasks.

Requirements

  • Strong interest in orthopedic, sports medicine, or performance-based rehabilitation

  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills

  • High school diploma or GED required
  • Current enrollment in (or intent to pursue) a healthcare or rehabilitation-related program preferred (e.g., Exercise Science, Kinesiology, Pre-PT, Athletic Training, or similar)
  • Basic medical terminology knowledge preferred
  • Comfort using computers and electronic medical records
  • Ability to assist with patient mobility and physical activity tasks
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills

Responsibilities

  • Support therapists with non-billable patient care activities in an outpatient ortho/sports setting
  • Assist with therapeutic exercises, stretches, and strengthening activities under supervision
  • Prepare and set up equipment for treatment sessions (bands, weights, tables, etc.)
  • Observe evaluations, movement assessments, and treatment progressions
  • Assist with patient flow, including escorting and preparing patients for sessions
  • Document exercises and interactions in the electronic medical record (as appropriate)
  • Maintain a clean, organized, and high-energy clinical environment
  • Stock and manage therapy equipment and supplies
  • Provide excellent customer service to patients and families
  • Assist with administrative support, including scheduling and communication
