About The Position

This position is responsible for ambulating patients (direct patient care) under the direct supervision of a licensed therapist or a registered nurse. The role involves assisting therapists and nursing staff with direct patient care, maintaining patient safety, setting up and putting away equipment, responding to pager requests for equipment, performing regular sweeps for ambulatory assistive devices, and handling routine clerical and administrative tasks. Requirements

  • High School diploma or GED required.
  • Certificate 1 Basic Life Support required.
  • 0-1 years related work experience required.
  • New hires will have 60 days to provide BLS certification.
  • Certification has to be with the American Heart Association (AHA).
  • Experience with computer systems required, including web based applications and some Microsoft Office applications which may include Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint or Access.
  • Ability to make decisions that are based on specific instructions, standard practices and established procedures which generally require little or no supervision.
  • Ability to address problems that are routine, somewhat repetitive and generally solved by following clear directions and procedures and by identifying opportunities for process improvements.
  • Ability to follow general instructions and procedures as provided.
  • Ability to communicate clearly and effectively in written English with internal and external customers.
  • Ability to comprehend and converse in English to communicate effectively with medical center staff, patients, families and external customers.
  • Ability to demonstrate full working knowledge of standard concepts, practices, procedures and policies with the ability to use them in varied situations.
  • Ability to work collaboratively in small teams to improve the operations of immediate work group by offering ideas, identifying issues, and respecting team members.
  • Ability to provide a high level of customer service to patients, visitors, staff and external customers in a professional, service-oriented, respectful manner using skills in active listening and problem solving.
  • Ability to remain calm in stressful situations.

Responsibilities

  • Assists therapists and nursing staff with direct patient care as needed by turning, positioning, transferring or ambulating patients.
  • Maintains the safety of patients who have been identified at risk for injury by implementing safety interventions or using appropriate ambulatory assistive devices.
  • Sets up appropriate equipment as directed for therapy treatment session; wipes down all surfaces with appropriate antibacterial solution.
  • Puts away all supplies at the end of session.
  • Is available on pager to all therapists, therapy assistants and nursing staff to provide necessary equipment at bedside as requested.
  • Performs regular sweeps of all patient areas to locate ambulatory assistive devices and returns them to their proper location.
  • Performs routine clerical and administrative tasks as directed, including using the computer, copier, fax machine and telephone.
  • Orders Durable Medical Equipment from vendors.
