About The Position

The SPS Regulatory Intern supports the Regulatory Administration function by assisting with document control, records management, and organization of regulatory filings across Texas and New Mexico jurisdictions. This position provides hands-on exposure to utility regulatory processes, with a primary focus on maintaining the integrity, accessibility, and compliance of regulatory documents throughout their lifecycle. The intern will play a key support role in the preparation, organization, and tracking of materials associated with formal Commission proceedings, including Requests for Information (RFIs), testimony, compliance filings, and annual reports. Responsibilities include organizing documents within established systems of record, applying naming conventions, tracking versions, and ensuring that final materials are stored in compliance with SPS records management policies and regulatory expectations. This role emphasizes precision, organization, and accountability, contributing directly to SPS’s ability to produce filing-ready work products and maintain defensible records for regulatory review and discovery. Consistent with SPS practices, the intern will support application of retention schedules, proper handling of draft versus final materials, and alignment with internal governance standards.

Requirements

  • Current student, Junior or higher (as of Fall 2027)
  • Enrolled in an accredited college or university and pursuing a degree in Business Administration (with focus in operations or management), Information Systems / Management Information Systems (MIS), Data Science / Analytics (light focus on data organization and tracking), Legal Studies / Pre-Law, Public Administration / Public Policy, Government / Political Science (Regulatory or Administrative focus)
  • Able to work full-time during the summer (up to 40 hours a week)/ part time during the school year (up to 20 hours a week) and commuting to the designated work location in-person, per our hybrid work policy.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office tools

Responsibilities

  • Organize and maintain regulatory documents within approved systems of record (e.g., S: drive, SharePoint), ensuring proper folder structure, naming conventions, and version control.
  • Support preparation of filing packages, including assembling testimony, exhibits, RFIs, and compliance materials for internal review and Commission submission.
  • Assist with records retention and governance, including applying retention schedules, identifying draft vs. final materials, and ensuring proper archival of official documents.
  • Track and log regulatory materials, including assisting with document intake, database entry, and maintaining trackers for filings, RFIs, and supporting exhibits.
  • Conduct document quality checks, ensuring formatting consistency, completeness of filing packages, and alignment with SPS regulatory standards and naming protocols.
  • Support internal coordination and audits, including assisting with document retrieval, organization of case files, and preparation of materials for management review or regulatory inquiries.
