About The Position

We are seeking a part-time instructor to teach SED 2516: Ethics and Technology, a 3-credit course designed to develop students' ability to integrate ethical considerations into technology design. The course aims to introduce students to applied technology ethics and normative theories, help them construct clear arguments, critically analyze socio-technical aspects of technologies, conduct ethical analyses of emerging and existing technologies using existing tools and frameworks, and develop their teamwork and communication skills (oral and written).

Requirements

  • Master's degree in Applied Ethics (Philosophy), Science and Technology Studies (STS), Technology Law, Critical Technology Studies, or a closely related field.
  • Demonstrated experience in teaching or professional practice in applied technology ethics, STS, critical technology studies, or a related field.
  • Knowledge of technology design frameworks such as Design Thinking or Agile Development.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.

Nice To Haves

  • Doctorate in Applied Ethics, Critical Technology Studies (STS), or a related field.
  • Professional experience in technology sectors, with exposure to technology design teams.
  • Ability to apply theory to practical situations.
  • Experience teaching diverse student populations and fostering inclusive learning environments.
  • Experience promoting active and experiential learning.
  • Knowledge of ethics in technological practice and the role of diversity in team performance.
  • Knowledge of contemporary approaches to equity, diversity, and inclusion.
  • Proficiency in teaching effective written and oral technical communication.

Responsibilities

  • Deliver engaging lectures and case studies, and facilitate discussions on course themes.
  • Create and evaluate assignments, projects, and exams to assess student progress against course learning objectives.
  • Align teaching with the approved course description and learning outcomes.
  • Coordinate exams and other course components with SED 2116.
  • Stay informed about research and professional practices in applied technology ethics, and ethical analysis and design of technologies.
