This course, GEG3505-A00, focuses on Earth Observation. Since the dawn of the space age, humanity has developed satellites to image the Earth using a wide range of cameras, lasers, and radars. We all have access to the data from these instruments; the challenge today is to use this data to generate information for decision-making. This course will provide a fundamental understanding of the data produced by Earth observation satellites, teach methods for manipulating, combining, and analyzing this data, and provide tools to harness the power of satellite imagery. Upon completion, students will have a solid understanding of the strengths and weaknesses of Earth observation data and the skills to use it for mapping and monitoring Earth's diverse environments. The course is scheduled to be offered in Fall 2026, with an expected enrollment of 45 students. It will be delivered in person.
