About The Position

The Department of Classics and Religious Studies at the University of Ottawa is seeking a Regular Part-Time Professor to teach Anthropology of Religion (SRS2194, Section A00) during the 2027 Winter Semester. This course will explore anthropological approaches and cross-cultural studies of worldviews, belief systems, ritual practices, and spiritualities across various societies, from post-industrial to tribal communities, and will address contemporary issues in inter-cultural relations. The course is to be delivered in person, with scheduled classes on Mondays from 13:00 to 14:30 and Wednesdays from 11:30 to 13:00. The expected enrollment is 90 students, and the course is worth 3 credits. The hourly rate for teaching is $239.47 (2024-2025 rates), which does not include vacation or statutory pay and will be applied until a new collective agreement is ratified, with retroactivity paid thereafter. The academic year runs from September 1 to August 31.

Requirements

  • M.A. in Religious Studies or equivalent.
  • Expertise in the course topic (Anthropology of Religion) required.
  • Competence in the language of instruction (English).
  • Successful completion of all mandatory legislated training as required by provincial law.
  • Ability to apply for the position using a worker profile in Workday if currently an active employee of the University of Ottawa.
