About The Position

The Department of Classics and Religious Studies at the University of Ottawa is seeking a Regular Part-Time Professor to teach Anthropology of Religion (SRS2194, Section A00) during the 2027 Winter Semester. This course will explore anthropological approaches and cross-cultural studies of worldviews, belief systems, ritual practices, and spiritualities across various societies, from post-industrial to tribal communities, and will address contemporary issues in inter-cultural relations. The course is to be delivered in person, with scheduled classes on Mondays from 13:00 to 14:30 and Wednesdays from 11:30 to 13:00. The expected enrollment is 90 students, and the course is worth 3 credits. The hourly rate for teaching is $239.47 (2024-2025 rates), which does not include vacation or statutory pay and will be applied until a new collective agreement is ratified, with retroactivity paid thereafter. The academic year runs from September 1 to August 31.

Requirements

M.A. in Religious Studies or equivalent.
Expertise in the course topic (Anthropology of Religion) required.
Competence in the language of instruction (English).
Successful completion of all mandatory legislated training as required by provincial law.
Ability to apply for the position using a worker profile in Workday if currently an active employee of the University of Ottawa.
