About The Position

The University of Ottawa is seeking a Regular Part-Time Professor to teach the course SRS2172-A00, Religion, Animals, Nature, during the 2027 Winter Semester. This course will involve the study of diverse religious and contemporary texts on the meaning and value of the natural world, and the relationship of human beings to nature, including animals. It will also explore the impact of ecological crisis on traditional views of Selfhood, Morality and the Divine. The teaching mode is hybrid, with scheduled classes on Mondays and Wednesdays from 17:30 to 19:00. The expected enrollment is 90 students, and the course is worth 3 credits. The academic year runs from September 1 to August 31. The hourly rate for teaching is $239.47 (2024-2025), which does not include vacation or statutory pay. These rates are subject to change upon ratification of a new collective agreement, with retroactive pay provided after ratification. Requirements

  • M.A. in Religious Studies or equivalent.
  • Expertise in course topic required.
  • Competence in the language of instruction (English).

Responsibilities

  • Conduct classes in a hybrid teaching mode.
  • Deliver instruction during scheduled class times: Monday 17:30-19:00 and Wednesday 17:30-19:00.
  • Successfully complete all mandatory legislated training as required by provincial law.
