About The Position

This course, Perfectionner la rédaction (TRA5543 Section A), focuses on refining writing skills by exploring principles and techniques for communication in various traditional and digital contexts, with and without computer tools. Students will learn to adapt texts for different audiences and purposes, and to eliminate interferences from other languages to produce idiomatic texts. The course is scheduled for the Fall 2026 semester and is part of the Faculty of Arts, within the School of Translation and Interpretation.

Requirements

  • Proficiency in French (active) at a professional level, with a good passive knowledge of English.
  • Master's degree in Translation, Traductology, French, or a related field.
  • Membership in a recognized professional association or order of technical writers, editors, or translators recognized by the School, or equivalent professional and university experience.
  • Extensive professional experience in French writing, preferably in Canada.
  • Good knowledge of common issues related to linguistic interference in a French-English bilingual context, and strategies to resolve them.
  • Excellent knowledge of common text types and writing conventions in traditional and multimedia contexts.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience teaching at the university level is an asset.

Responsibilities

  • Give lectures and manage in-class activities and evaluations, primarily in French, occasionally in English.
  • Create and maintain a course website within the university's learning management system.
  • Present the characteristics and conventions of effective writing for various text types and contexts.
  • Present writing and revision techniques.
  • Integrate essential writing resources, including style guides.
  • Provide detailed feedback on writing exercises and evaluations to help students develop their writing and critical analysis skills.
  • Integrate discussions of relevant computer tools into the courses, or exercises using them, with the help of tools and resources provided by the School.
  • Work with the Director or Program Coordinator and colleagues to ensure program coherence and learning objectives, while preserving academic freedom.
