About The Position

The Faculty of Arts, Department of Linguistics at the University of Ottawa is seeking a Regular Part-Time Professor to teach Speech Acoustics (LIN4326, Section A) during the Winter 2027 semester. This course covers acoustic theory, the acoustics of the speech signal, articulatory generation of the acoustic phonetic signal, psychoacoustics, and their implications for research. It also includes laboratory methods in the speech sciences and a group or individual project. The course is expected to have an enrolment of 30 students and is worth 3 credits. The language of instruction is English, with passive competence in a second language required. The course schedule is Tuesdays from 10:00 AM to 11:30 AM and Thursdays from 8:30 AM to 10:00 AM. This position is offered in person.

Requirements

  • Ph.D. in linguistics
  • Experience of teaching in speech acoustics
  • Successful completion of all mandatory legislated training as required by provincial law.
