About The Position

This position is for a Regular Part-Time Professor to teach Analyse, écriture et argumentation I (FRA1710 Section J) during the 2027 Winter Semester in the Faculty of Arts, Department of French. The course involves the lecture and analysis of works from different literary domains or genres, focusing on current topics relevant to contemporary situations and debates. It includes practical writing exercises such as summaries and analytical reports, as well as the resolution of common grammatical errors. This section is delivered in-person with a weekly three-hour class session, utilizing a "flipped classroom" pedagogy that emphasizes active learning. Students are first exposed to theoretical content through self-directed activities, followed by a structured lecture to clarify and deepen concepts. The course plan, including texts, session structure, and theoretical content, is predetermined. A professor's guide will be available before the session begins. Professors are required to use the Brightspace "toolkit" developed by the Department and SAEA, and adhere to all points in the Guide for Faculty to ensure uniformity in evaluations and adherence to the established schedule across all sections. Professors are responsible for a portion of the grading, supervising teaching assistants' grading, and overseeing TAs during exam supervision. Typical tasks include preparing PowerPoints, explanatory documents, answer keys, participating in coordination team discussions, and managing a high volume of emails. The role requires strong collaboration skills with the pedagogical team, especially given tight deadlines. Proficiency in or willingness to learn communication and teaching tools such as TEAMS, Microsoft Outlook, ZOOM, Brightspace, and EXCEL is necessary. Professors must be on-site as the course is in-person.
