About The Position

This position involves teaching TRA 5542, 'Traduire des textes généraux : stratégies et solutions' (General Text Translation: Strategies and Solutions) during the Winter 2027 semester. The course combines theory and practical exercises for translating popular texts from French to English across various fields such as journalism, scientific popularization, and advertising, with and without computer tools. It aims to develop research and transfer skills necessary for more complex and specialized texts. The course will be offered in person.

Requirements

• Proficiency in English (passive) and French (active) at a professional level.
• Master's degree in Translation or Traductology, recognized by a professional association or order of translators recognized by the School for the English to French transfer combination, or equivalent professional and academic experience.
• Extensive professional experience in translating from English to French, preferably in Canada.
• An acceptable level of education and/or experience could be viewed as being equivalent to the educational required and/or demonstrated experience.
• Employees are required under provincial law to successfully complete all mandatory legislated training.

Nice To Haves

• University-level teaching experience is an asset.

Responsibilities

• Give courses and manage in-class activities and evaluations primarily in French, occasionally in English.
• Create and maintain a course website within the university's learning management system.
• Select source texts suitable for the students' level and the course learning objectives.
• Present elements of effective translation methodologies, processes, and techniques.
