About The Position

This course, Phonology I (LIN5315 Section A), is for the Fall 2026 semester and will cover basic phonological concepts, current problems in phonological research, the goals of phonological theory, and the fundamentals of theoretical and experimental phonology. It will examine various formal models proposed to account for phonological patterns and processes since the development of generative phonology, and introduce important theoretical developments since the beginning of the 21st century, including post-OT constraint-based models, computation in phonology, emergentist models, and laboratory phonology. The objective is to familiarize graduate students with essential concepts in phonology to enable them to read and understand current phonological literature. The course is offered In Person.

Requirements

  • PhD in Linguistics with an expertise in phonology.
  • Recent publications in formal or experimental phonology.
  • Competence in second language: Passive.
  • Must successfully complete all mandatory legislated training as required by provincial law.
