About The Position

The Faculty of Engineering at the University of Ottawa is seeking a Regular Part-Time Professor for the Fall 2026 semester to teach DTI6105 Design Thinking. This course focuses on design thinking as a collaborative creative process for problem-solving and designing human-centered solutions, driving business innovation, new product development, and customer experience. It covers best practices for design inspiration, ideation, and implementation, essential design research skills (empathy, listening, collaboration, observation, critical analysis, experimentation), and tools/techniques such as visualization, mapping, storytelling, rapid prototyping, and testing.

Requirements

  • PhD in Psychology or a related discipline with a thesis relevant to Design Thinking.
  • Three to five years of industry experience demonstrating mastery of current practice and theory in all aspects of design thinking.
  • Expert knowledge of management practices related to business innovation, product development, customer experience, and the integration of design thinking.
  • Significant experience managing and mentoring multi-disciplinary design projects involving individuals with diverse backgrounds (technology, psychology, creative arts, management).
