About The Position

Beacon Veterinary Specialists is seeking experienced Emergency & Critical Care RVTs to join our Relief Network! This role gives you the flexibility to select open shifts that work with your schedule at premium per diem pay rates. Relief RVTs are W-2 Beacon employees, meaning our company pays the employer share of payroll taxes, unlike 1099 relief work. This is a non-benefited role: no PTO, retirement match, or health coverage. Paid sick leave accrues as required by California law. Beacon Veterinary Specialists is a privately owned, criticalist-led 24/7 Emergency and Specialty hospital serving Fremont and the surrounding Bay Area. Our emergency team works closely with our board-certified specialists in Surgery and Internal Medicine to provide collaborative, advanced care for complex and critically ill patients.

Requirements

Active California RVT license in good standing
Minimum three years of experience as an Emergency or Specialty RVT
Demonstrated proficiency in advanced emergency and critical-care nursing
Ability to work independently and make sound decisions within the RVT scope of practice
Strong communication, clinical judgment, and teamwork
Reliable and able to commit to at least two shifts per month

Responsibilities

Manage complex emergency and critical-care cases
Recognize and respond to shock, respiratory distress, seizures, and other acute emergencies
Monitor high-risk anesthesia, mechanical ventilation, CRIs, and patients receiving pressors
Perform advanced procedures, including jugular/PICC placement and feeding or chest tube care
Take an advanced role during CPR, including compressions, drug administration, and patient monitoring
Maintain accurate medical records, treatment sheets, and charges in alignment with hospital policies
