About The Position

The RN Specialty Nurse II serves in an expanded role to assess patient needs, plan and provide nursing care, and coordinate follow-up care. This role also involves participation in research and educating patients and nursing staff. This specific position is part-time, 16 hours per week, scheduled for Thursday and Friday from 7:45 am to 4:15 pm. While considered per diem with set days, it is not a benefit-eligible position. Work is typically performed in a clinical environment, and the individual is accountable for all job-specific obligations and compliance with organizational policies and procedures.

Requirements

  • Graduate from Specialty Training Program-Nursing
  • Minimum of 2 years-Nursing experience
  • Basic Life Support Certification
  • Licensed Registered Nurse (Pennsylvania)

Responsibilities

  • Provide patient care and education for patients in the specific age range on their assigned department.
  • Serve as a resource person for patient and family regarding the perception of the diagnosis and medical plan of care for the management of disease as designated by the physician.
  • Maintain availability to nursing for occasional in-service and help with orientation of staff involved education.
  • Perform pre-visit data gathering and record keeping on new and return patients.
  • Record current medications and dosages and obtain previous laboratory results and measurements.
  • Assist in the management of patients with chronic diseases, including achieving key quality indicators, education, and long-term coordination of care.
  • Track performance improvement measures and assist providers with completion.
  • Obtain and document patient medical history, chief complaint, vital signs, and provide basic medical data base for provider, and prepare patient for examinations.
  • Assist provider in performance of procedures as directed by provider to facilitate accurate diagnosis.
  • Collect and prepare laboratory specimens and complete associated paperwork to expedite laboratory studies with maximum accuracy and efficiency.
  • Assist with orientation of new personnel to ensure that they are appropriately trained to support patients and provider.
  • Execute and document ongoing patient communication.
  • Provide instruction to ensure patient's understanding of medical condition and compliance with treatment instructions.
  • Insert, monitor, regulate and discontinue IVs as required by provider.
  • Perform and assist with triaging telephone calls concerning health issues and offers appropriate telephone management advice to patients as liaison to physician recommendations.
  • Communicate lab, radiology and other testing results to patients and via telephone and electronic medical record letter notification.
  • Assess patient needs, plan and provide nursing care and coordinate follow-up care.
  • Participate in research and educate patients and nursing staff.
