About The Position

The Huron Perth Healthcare Alliance (HPHA) is seeking a Registered Practical Nurse for the Emergency Department in Stratford, ON. Requirements

  • Current Certificate of Registration in good standing with the College of Nurses of Ontario
  • Completion of a 12 lead ECG interpretation and basic cardiac arrhythmia interpretation courses
  • Current BLS certification
  • Completion of IV Therapy course
  • Completion of IV Start course or equivalent including flushing of PRN adaptors
  • Minimum of two (2) years recent nursing experience in an acute care setting preferred
  • Working knowledge of or the ability to quickly comprehend the Meditech, Risk Monitor Pro and Automated Dispensing Cabinets Information System and personal computer applications

  • Recent nursing experience in an acute care setting

Responsibilities

  • Ability to work to full scope of practice as defined by the College of Nurses of Ontario
  • Experience working with adult and paediatric populations
  • Knowledge of Medical, Surgical, Orthopedic, Paediatric, Gyn/ Obstetric and Mental Health nursing
  • Skilled in Medication Administration and IV drug administration
  • Subcutaneous port insertion and drug administration
  • Experience in cardiac care, wound and burn care, insertion of gastric tubes
  • Skill in assessment, planning, implementing and evaluation of patient care in compliance to CNO scope of practice
  • Comprehension of the CNO Three Factor Framework of patient care requirements, the nurse’s cognitive and technical expertise in an ED environment to determine which category of nursing is appropriate for specific nursing roles in patient care
  • Knowledge of the 5 level Canadian Triage and Acuity Scale (CTAS) process
  • Accountable for patient outcomes within the CNO scope of practice
  • Demonstrates knowledge and application of Infection Control policies, procedures and precautions
  • Ability to assist with cast applications
  • Demonstrated experience utilizing proper body mechanics when lifting and transferring patients
  • Experience conducting patient education
  • Ability to plan and organize with good critical thinking, interpersonal, communication, facilitation and problem solving skills
  • Demonstrated ability to prioritize and function both independently and interdependently with the interprofessional care team
  • Evidence of ongoing professional development/ continuing education and participation in quality assurance activities
  • Strong interest in interprofessional practice and patient centered care
  • Demonstrated good attendance record
  • Ability to meet the physical demands of the position
