About The Position

The Registered Practical Nurse (RPN) is a valued member of the interdisciplinary team within the department and organization. They are responsible for the coordination and delivery of quality patient care by assessing and identifying patient needs, implementing and monitoring the patients’ medical plan, and following HPHA policies and procedures. Additionally, the Registered Nurse must follow nursing processes within the profession’s and licensures scope of practice. They will provide education, advice and support to patients and family members.

Requirements

  • Current Registration and Certificate of Competence with the College of Nurses of Ontario
  • Current BLS certification
  • Minimum of 2 years recent clinical experience in the areas of: Pre/Post Operative Acute Care Surgery (including general surgery, plastics, vascular, orthopaedic, gynaecology, urological and EENT) preferred
  • Recent/related courses, in-services in Surgical Nursing
  • Medication Administration
  • Good communication skills
  • Ability to plan, organize and problem solve
  • Demonstrated commitment to ongoing continuing education
  • Able to meet the physical demands of the position
  • Working knowledge of Meditech Information System and personal computer applications

Nice To Haves

  • Certificate in all nursing skills required by the Department of Nursing in the assigned unit
