About The Position

Reporting to the Program Manager of Assistive Technology, and under the direction of an appropriate, certified Clinician, the Registered Orthotic Technician provides technical expertise towards evaluation, treatment planning, individualized design, custom fabrication, and maintenance of assistive devices, primarily orthoses, to enhance patient mobility and/or physical function. The Registered Technician works collaboratively with the inter-professional health care team to provide optimal care and to assist the patient in achieving their orthotic goals. The Registered Technician works with patients directly and indirectly by contributing to the orthotic ongoing care. The Registered Technician works closely with the certified clinician to ensure the quality and integrity of orthoses provided to patients meet the physical and functional needs of the patients and their goals by ensuring the materials and components used are best evidence informed practice. Registered Technicians incorporate critical thinking, problem solving, and effective communication to deliver high quality care to patients. The Registered Technician may provide supervision and evaluation of students and/or technical interns.

Requirements

  • Registration in good standing with Orthotics Prosthetics Canada (annual renewal)
  • Minimum of two years’ experience
  • The registered technician must have the ability to communicate well with patients, families and the health care team
  • Possess excellent interpersonal skills and have organizational skills to complete assigned work and manage changing caseloads
  • High level of manual dexterity, strong problem-solving abilities, computer skills
  • Understanding of privacy and confidentiality requirements and understanding of infection control procedures

Nice To Haves

  • Experience in a hospital setting
  • Competencies in other languages an asset, French preferred
