About The Position

Reporting to the Program Manager, the Physiotherapist assesses, diagnoses and treats patients in a tertiary care setting who present with actual or potential impairment, pain, functional limitations or disabilities. Physiotherapy assessment involves obtaining a detailed medical history, performing specific and standardized tests and evaluation procedures to determine a physical diagnosis. Holistic treatment programs are developed using exercises, education, and manual, mechanical, electrical and hydrotherapy techniques to assist the patient in regaining and/or maintaining an optimal level of function. The Physiotherapist educates and communicates with other health disciplines, the general public, family members and caregivers with regard to health promotion, physiotherapy treatment and patient management. The Physiotherapist provides supervision and evaluation of physiotherapy students and supervision of physiotherapy assistants and aides. The Physiotherapist collaborates with colleagues to determine team goals and objectives, participates in the evaluation of team effectiveness, and solves problems and shares responsibilities. Physiotherapists work on weekends in many areas of the hospital. The successful applicant may be required to provide services throughout the Rehabilitation & Supportive Care portfolio.

Requirements

  • Master's degree in Physiotherapy or acceptable equivalent from a recognized school of Physiotherapy
  • Current registration with the Nova Scotia College of Physiotherapy and eligibility for membership in the Canadian Physiotherapy Association
  • Minimum of three (3) years previous experience in spinal assessment required
  • Maintains current certification in CPR
  • Thorough knowledge of Physiotherapy practice, with an interest in program development and evaluation skills

  • Previous experience in reviewing x-rays considered an asset
  • Previous experience leading group education and/or exercise classes using adult education principles considered an asset.
  • Previous experience promoting patient self-management and chronic disease management considered an asset
  • Competencies in other languages an asset, French preferred
