About The Position

Under the direction of the Assistive Technology Program Manager, and under the supervision of an Occupational Therapist, the Occupational Therapy Assistant (OTA) completes therapeutic and technical support duties in support of the delivery of assistive technology services to referred clients, both independently and collaboratively with health care team members and students. This is a highly specialized clinical role helping patients with complex clinical needs and their families identify, set-up, modify, trial and utilize both low and high-tech assistive devices, including computer and phone systems, specialized software, environmental control systems, security, customized access systems and other assistive and adaptive technologies. Under the supervision of an Occupational Therapist, the OTA also supports the Driver Evaluation program and may participate in client screening and testing activities. Cross coverage in the Wheelchair Shop may be required; coverage at other sites is required.

Requirements

  • Graduation from an Occupational Therapy Assistant program recognized by the Canadian Association of Occupational Therapy
  • Previous experience in using computer technology including windows, android and apple platforms required
  • Previous experience and/or knowledge of seating and mobility systems required
  • Annual BCLS certification
  • Commitment to confidentiality and protection of clients’ personal health information and an understanding of related policies and best practices
  • Strong communication, creativity, problem solving and organizational skills are required
  • Must be adaptable, flexible and demonstrate initiative
  • Able to work independently and collaboratively with health care team members, clients, caregivers and students

Nice To Haves

  • Minimum 2 years’ clinical practice, preferred
  • Competencies in other languages preferred, French an asset

Responsibilities

  • Completes therapeutic and technical support duties in support of the delivery of assistive technology services to referred clients.
