About The Position

Harbor Oaks Hospital, a mental health and addiction treatment center in New Baltimore, Michigan, is seeking Psychiatric Registered Nurses to provide and coordinate patient care. Nurses assess patients’ physical and behavioral health needs, develop and implement nursing care plans, maintain records, educate patients and families, administer medications, and communicate with physicians and the treatment team. The role follows applicable nursing standards, state Nurse Practice Act requirements, and facility and corporate policies. The hospital emphasizes safety through Personal Panic Alarm devices in clinical and non-clinical areas.

Full-time schedules are available on day or night shift, each consisting of three 12-hour shifts with weekend rotation. The listed pay range is $39–$44.33 per hour, based on years of nursing experience. Sign-on bonuses are listed as $7,500 for day shift and $10,000 for night shift.

Requirements

• Graduation from an accredited school of nursing.
• Current Registered Nurse (RN) license as required by the state of employment, or eligibility to practice nursing in accordance with state requirements.
• One year of nursing experience.
• CPR certification.
• De-escalation and restraint certification; training is available upon hire and offered by the facility.

Nice To Haves

• Previous psychiatric, mental health, behavioral health, or substance abuse nursing experience.
• First aid, if required by state or facility requirements.

Responsibilities

• Assess patients’ physical and behavioral health needs and coordinate their care.
• Develop and implement nursing care plans specific to assessed needs.
• Maintain medical records and educate patients and families about physical and behavioral health conditions.
• Provide nursing care within applicable standards, scope of practice, state Nurse Practice Act regulations, and facility and corporate policies.
• Ensure verbally received physician orders are legible and transcribed according to policy and procedure.
• Assess patient status on an ongoing basis and gather and document pertinent information.
• Notify physicians about significant changes in patient status, including detox difficulties, medical emergencies, medication responses, and related challenges.
• Complete initial nursing treatment plans upon admission.
• Use universal precautions when providing direct patient care.
• Administer medications accurately according to orders.
• Document controlled-substance medication counts on required documents.
• Complete admission and discharge processing efficiently and accurately as directed.
• Maintain therapeutic rapport and professional boundaries with patients.
• Direct or coordinate unit activities as directed.
• Communicate therapeutically and professionally with patients, visitors, coworkers, and others involved in inpatient treatment.
