About The Position

Registered Nurse in a 40-bed cardiac step-down unit in Asheville, North Carolina. The unit cares for patients with congestive heart failure, myocardial infarction, chest pain, arrhythmias, pulmonary hypertension, valvular disease, endocarditis, diabetic ketoacidosis, and patients recovering from cardiac catheterization, stenting, pacemaker or ICD placement, and ablation. Staffing includes a charge nurse, bedside nurses, patient care technicians, and a unit secretary, with patient ratios of 1:4 that may stretch to 1:5. The role includes bedside cardioversion procedures and floating to all MedSurg and step-down units, the COVID unit, and ER holding. Every other weekend is required. Dress code is all white, all navy blue, or a white top with navy blue pants.

Requirements

• Step-down or progressive care experience.
• Telemetry experience.
• Experience with titratable or cardiac IV medications, such as nitroglycerin, Cardizem, amiodarone, dopamine, Dobutrex, insulin drip, heparin, and Bumex/Lasix.
• BLS certification.
• ACLS certification.
• Flexible, positive attitude, strong teamwork, and compassion.

Nice To Haves

• Experience with prostacyclins, including Flolan, Veletri, or Remodulin.
• Relief charge experience.

Responsibilities

• Provide nursing care for patients in the cardiac step-down unit.
• Care for patients with the listed cardiac, pulmonary, and metabolic conditions and post-procedure needs.
• Perform bedside cardioversion.
• Float to all MedSurg units, step-down units, the COVID unit, and ER holding.
• Work every other weekend.
