About The Position

Hartford Hospital is seeking a Registered Nurse for its 18-bed Bliss 11 Medicine Step Down unit. The unit cares for patients with complex, highly acute medical issues, including respiratory failure, gastrointestinal bleeding, liver and kidney injury or failure, sepsis, and drug and alcohol withdrawal. It also specializes in caring for patients with pulmonary hypertension. The unit is staffed 24 hours a day by Physician Assistants and Advanced Practice Registered Nurses under the supervision of a Critical Care Pulmonologist. In a collaborative, interdisciplinary environment, the Registered Nurse works under the direction and general supervision of the Nurse Manager. The nurse uses evidence-based practices and the nursing process to develop and deliver patient-centered care in accordance with the State Nurse Practice Act, hospital policies and procedures, and medical staff direction. Care plans address the physical, emotional, spiritual, cultural, and educational needs of patients and their families. The position involves a fast-paced environment where critical thinking, medical knowledge, communication, and clinical skills are continually challenged and developed.

Requirements

Current Connecticut RN license prior to orientation.
Graduate of an accredited nursing school.
Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) required.
BLS certification from the American Heart Association prior to orientation.

Responsibilities

Use evidence-based nursing practices in accordance with the State Nurse Practice Act and hospital policies and procedures.
Use the nursing process to develop a plan of care that meets patients’ and families’ physical, emotional, spiritual, cultural, and educational needs.
Provide patient-centered care in collaboration with interdisciplinary teams.
Care for patients with complex, highly acute medical conditions, including pulmonary hypertension.
