About The Position

The Registered Nurse works in a collaborative environment with strong interdisciplinary teams and a patient-centered care model. Under the direction and general supervision of the Nurse Manager, the RN uses evidence-based practices in accordance with the State Nurse Practice Act, hospital policies and procedures, and medical staff direction. The RN applies the nursing process to develop a plan of care that meets the physical, emotional, spiritual, cultural, and educational needs of patients and their families. Bliss 11 Step Down is an 18-bed unit caring for patients with complex, highly acute medical issues, including respiratory failure, gastrointestinal bleeding, liver injury or failure, kidney injury or failure, sepsis, and drug and alcohol withdrawal. The unit also specializes in care for the pulmonary hypertension population. Under the supervision of a Critical Care Pulmonologist, the unit is staffed around the clock by Physician Assistants and Advanced Practice Registered Nurses. The fast-paced environment challenges nurses’ critical thinking, medical knowledge, communication, and clinical skills while supporting development into well-rounded, highly skilled medical professionals.

Requirements

Current Connecticut RN license required before orientation.
Graduate of an accredited nursing school; BSN required.
BLS certification from the American Heart Association required before orientation.

Responsibilities

Use evidence-based practices in accordance with the State Nurse Practice Act, hospital policies and procedures, and medical staff direction.
Apply the nursing process to develop plans of care that address patients’ and families’ physical, emotional, spiritual, cultural, and educational needs.
Provide care to patients with complex, highly acute medical issues, including pulmonary hypertension.
