About The Position

The Registered Nurse Medical Surgical role is based at Ascension Via Christi St. Peter in Derby, Kansas, and provides medical-surgical nursing care. The nurse delivers compassionate, direct care using established protocols to support safe, high-quality treatment. The role includes creating and managing patient care plans, monitoring and communicating changes in patient condition, coordinating care across medical disciplines, and collaborating with the healthcare team on safe discharge transitions. The position is offered on day or night shift and may be full-time, part-time, or PRN.

Required qualifications include an active Registered Nurse credential before hire or transfer, BLS Provider certification within 30 days of hire or transfer, and a diploma from an accredited school or college of nursing, or the required professional licensure at the time of hire.

Requirements

• Registered Nurse credential obtained before the hire date or job transfer date.
• BLS Provider certification obtained within 1 month (30 days) of the hire date or job transfer date; American Heart Association or American Red Cross credentials are accepted.
• Diploma from an accredited school or college of nursing, or required professional licensure at the time of hire.

Responsibilities

• Deliver compassionate, direct nursing care by following established protocols to ensure safe, high-quality patient treatment.
• Create and manage comprehensive patient care plans.
• Monitor and communicate changes in patient condition so the clinical team can respond to patient needs.
• Coordinate care across medical disciplines as the primary coordinator for an integrated, collaborative patient experience.
• Collaborate with the healthcare team to prepare patients and families for safe and efficient discharge transitions.
