About The Position

The Registered Nurse (RN-CN 1) works in the 34-bed Surgical/Trauma Intensive Care Unit (SICU), caring for adult patients requiring complex surgical and critical care. The unit’s specialties include trauma, transplant, acute care, and oncologic surgery. As the region’s only adult Level I trauma center, the SICU is prepared to receive critical trauma patients for resuscitation and specialized nursing care. Patients include solid-organ transplant recipients and people with complex oncologic, hepatobiliary, and general surgery needs. The unit receives approximately 5–8 admissions daily from the operating room and emergency room and uses multidisciplinary rounds to support patients’ transition to surgical floors. The RN assesses, plans, implements, coordinates, and evaluates culturally based, age-specific patient care using the nursing process and relevant nursing and scientific knowledge. The role collaborates with patients, families, and the healthcare team, communicates care plans, establishes priorities, documents care, and supports colleagues’ development. This is a night-shift position in the Surgical Intensive Care Unit at UC Medical Center.
