About The Position

The Registered Nurse (RN) provides specialized, culturally based, age-specific nursing care to individuals and groups, using knowledge of biological, physical, behavioral, social, and nursing sciences. This role is in the 34-bed Surgical/Trauma Intensive Care Unit (SICU), which cares for adult patients requiring complex surgical interventions, including trauma, transplant, acute care, and oncologic surgery. The unit is the region’s only adult Level I trauma center and receives critical trauma patients requiring resuscitation and specialized nursing care. Patients also include solid-organ transplant recipients and complex oncologic, hepatobiliary, and general surgery cases referred from across the country. Most patients are critically ill and often stabilize within 24–48 hours of admission. Care focuses on cardiopulmonary stabilization, adequate circulatory volume and perfusion, preservation of protective mechanisms, and pain control. The fast-paced SICU receives 5–8 admissions daily from the operating room and emergency department. Nurses contribute to multidisciplinary rounds and help prepare patients to transition to surgical floors.
