About The Position

The FLEX-ICU is a 12-bed unit specializing in the critical needs of patients within the first 24-72 hours of illness requiring intensive nursing care. The major specialties treated in this ICU are Medicine, Surgical, Neurological and Cardiac and Donor Care patients. The patient population specializes in critical condition, with most patients generally stabilizing within 24-48 hours following admission. Patient care focuses on stabilizing cardio-pulmonary functioning, maintaining adequate circulatory volume and perfusion, preserving the patient’s protective mechanisms and controlling pain. This short stay ICU will receive patients from ER, outside hospitals and other ICUs as needed to support hospital capacity. This unit will also support step-down level of care patients and is planned to be a hybrid of ICU/Stepdown patients. The Registered Nurse (RN) is an individual who holds a current state license to practice nursing. The practice of nursing requires specialized knowledge, judgment, and skills to provide care to groups and individuals. The RN utilizes knowledge derived from the principles of biological, physical, behavioral, social, and nursing sciences to assess, plan, implement, and evaluate patient care. The care is culturally based and age specific.

Requirements

  • Graduate from an accredited school of nursing
  • Associate's degree, the minimum required
  • Current OH RN License
  • 1-year Critical Care/ Stepdown experience or 2 years ED experience required.

  • Bachelor of Science in Nursing preferred

Responsibilities

  • Prepares, implements evaluates, revises, and coordinates interdisciplinary plan of care for each assigned patient in a collaborative effort with the other healthcare team members and patient/family within the timeframe indicated by the unit's standards of practice.
  • Communicates formulated plan of care, as appropriate, to all levels of associates involved in the patient's care, and demonstrates the ability to establish priorities of care based on the patient's assessment and needs.
  • Gives clear instructions to patients/family regarding treatment, and involves family/guardian in the assessment, initial treatment, and continuing care of the patient.
  • Identifies and responds appropriately to different patient needs resulting from behavioral health problems, unique psychological needs, or those associated with religious/cultural norms.
  • Demonstrates critical thinking, accountability, flexibility, and a cooperative attitude in meeting the needs of the unit.
  • The nursing process is accurately and concisely documented, including evaluation of treatment and in accordance with hospital policy and procedure.
  • Acts as a resource person and mentor for new personnel, floater, and/or supplemental staff working on the unit.
  • Assumes responsibility for personal and professional development and contributes to the professional development of peers, colleagues, and others.
