The RN Clinical Float Pool assesses, analyzes, plans, implements, and evaluates patient care in accordance with the organization’s patient care standards, including standards for patient assessment and transfer. The role requires flexibility to float to departments and sites according to the hired tier and the nurse’s competency. Assignments may include day-of staffing, more than one assignment location during a shift, travel assignments, or seasonal staffing patterns. The nurse participates as a member of the health care team under the direction of a clinical manager or designee and within the applicable Registered Nurse standards and scope of practice. For Tier 1, the float expectation is within a single site based on competency. The nurse supports organizational and departmental goals, participates in quality improvement, advocates for patient safety, and incorporates the professional practice model into care delivery. The nurse plans and coordinates care using available evidence and develops and implements an individualized plan of care, evaluates responses to interventions, and documents care appropriate to the patient’s condition and age.
