About The Position
The Registered Nurse position with the Department of Corrections offers the chance to deliver important health services to individuals with medical and behavioral needs at the State Correctional Institution (SCI) at Cambridge Springs. This role allows you to strengthen your clinical abilities while supporting daily health operations. Your work will help ensure that each patient receives safe, consistent, and respectful treatment. This position provides nursing care and treatment for individuals with physical or mental health needs in a correctional setting. The role supports daily medical operations through assessments, medication administration, emergency response, and accurate documentation.
Requirements
- Active authorization to practice as a Registered Nurse in Pennsylvania
- If possessing an active temporary practice permit, must obtain licensure as a Registered Nurse within one (1) year
- Must be able to perform essential job functions
- Must pass a background investigation and meet Criminal Justice Information Services (CJIS) compliance requirements
- Must provide complete and accurate information on the application

Responsibilities
- Administer medications, perform treatments, and assist with daily living activities
- Evaluate patient conditions and support physicians during examinations
- Provide first aid, CPR, and other care in urgent medical situations
- Update medical files, prepare reports, and maintain controlled substance logs
- Sterilize instruments, track inventory, and support treatment area readiness
- Share medical information with custody staff and assist with shift reports
