About The Position

The Acute Inpatient – Med/Surg Registered Nurse delivers high-quality, patient-centered care in line with department requirements and state and specialty standards of practice. In collaboration with medical providers and the care team, the nurse provides personalized, comprehensive, and compassionate care using established nursing models such as “Assess, Perform, Teach, and Manage.” The nurse advocates for patients, families, and caregivers and supports an outstanding patient experience and positive clinical outcomes. The role is in an Oncology Med/Surg acute inpatient setting. The schedule is three days per week, 7 a.m.–7 p.m., with rotating weekends.

Requirements

Registered Nurse (RN) credential.
Basic Cardiac Life Support (BCLS).
Associate degree or bachelor’s degree, to be obtained within two years of employment start date.
At least one year of RN experience in an acute care setting.

Responsibilities

Assess patients on admission and during each scheduled shift, promptly identifying and reporting changes in their condition.
Perform procedures, monitoring, and other functions as ordered by medical providers, and document care administration thoroughly and promptly in the medical record.
Administer prescribed medications, monitor therapeutic responses, and take appropriate action in response to unintended medication effects.
Respond promptly to patient requests, anticipate patient needs, and resolve them.
Educate patients, families, and caregivers about medical conditions, treatment plans, medications, possible side effects, and follow-up measures; explain complex medical terminology to ensure understanding.
Collaborate with medical providers and the care team to provide personalized, comprehensive, compassionate care.
Advocate for patients, families, and caregivers.
