About The Position

Indiana University Health is hiring a Registered Nurse for its Med Surg Psych/Behavioral Health unit at IU Methodist. Nurses hired into Behavioral Health Services are cross-trained and work in B8, C8, Secured Holding, and ECT. B8 is a 20-bed secured medical-surgical unit treating patients with primary medical and secondary psychiatric diagnoses, including alcohol withdrawal, Alzheimer’s disease or dementia, altered mental status, and other mental health issues. C8 is a 16-bed locked psychiatric unit focused on patients with primary psychiatric diagnoses, including schizophrenia, suicidal or homicidal ideation, and psychosis. Secured Holding is a five-bed emergency psychiatric unit where patients arriving at the emergency department for mental health issues are assessed and placed at an appropriate level of care. ECT provides electroconvulsive therapy, primarily for depression and catatonia, treating 18–24 patients three days per week. The role offers opportunities to develop de-escalation and medical nursing skills, including blood administration, IVIG, tracheostomy care, PCA pumps, and wound management systems. Nurses work in a fast-paced environment, cross-train across multiple areas, and practice in both medically licensed and behavioral health licensed areas. The unit describes a supportive team and leader environment, opportunities for learning and professional development, and strong physician/RN relationships. The position is full-time on the day shift. It is referral eligible and currently qualifies for a new hourly location differential in addition to standard shift and holiday differentials.
